Take Your Child to the Library Day 2016

Drop by for the fifth annual Take Your Child to the Library Day on Saturday, February 6th. The Mystic and Noank Library will have board games, Valentines Day crafts, as well as some visiting animal friends from the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center. It's the perfect day to encourage children to enjoy the Library, sign up for a library card, and join others for a day of fun.

Help trim the Library Tree!

Drop in to make an ornament for our holiday tree and your own decoration for home. The library will have the materials out all week in the Children's Room, with a tree trimming party on Saturday at 3:30pm. Get in the holiday spirit with cider, cookies, and gingerbread crafts!


The Mystic Express has arrived!

Barry Boodman has been kind enough to once again donate a beautiful, working model train to the Children's Room for the holiday season. Children and families are invited to visit the Library during regular hours to make the train puff and toot its way around its bustling winter village.

The Library will be raffling the entire train set as a fundraiser. Tickets are $5.00 each and will be available at the Circulation Desk. The drawing will be on Monday, December 21, 2015 at noon.

International Games Day @ The Mystic Noank Library

The Mystic & Noank Library and hundreds of libraries across the country will join the American Library Association(ALA), Nordic Game Day, the Australian Library and Information Association(ALIA) in celebrating the popularity and educational, recreational, and social value of games.

Read, learn, play. Come celebrate International Games Day with us Saturday, November 21st, 2015. Board games will be made available, suitable for all ages, with a special challenge for our weekly Scratch Club.

Scratch Club

Beginning Saturday, October 10th, at 10:00am the Library will be hosting a weekly club for kids interested in learning fun and interactive Scratch programming.

Participants will have the opportunity to create virtual games, music videos, art projects and more - all of their ow digital design! Children ages 10 and up are welcome.

Tellabration

The Mystic and Noank Library will be participating in a day of storytelling celebrated world-wide. This year Mother Goose (Mary Jo Maicheck) will be visiting for a special storytelling for preschoolers. Visit us on Friday, November 6th at 11:00am to join in the fun!

Fall Storytimes!

The library has begun registration for our Fall Storytimes. Scheduled to meet weekly Mondays through Fridays, classes consist of stories, finger-plays, crafts, and songs. Due to demand registration is required and class size is limited.

Registration will take place in the Children's Room of the library starting the week of August 31st, 2015. Classes will begin the week of September 28th, 2015.

Registration may be done by phone or in person; the library will contact you by email. We will attempt to accommodate everyone but in the case of over-enrollment classes will be determined on a first-come, first-served basis. Story-Time programs run for eight weeks and are free and open to the public.

The summer reading program begins Monday, June 23rd.

Every Hero has a Story!
For kids entering first grade and up. Keep track of what you read this summer and play our game every time you visit the library to figure out the puzzle and win prizes!

Read to Me!
A joint reading activity designed for children going into kindergarten and younger along with their care-givers. Read together and keep track to collect prizes and stickers each week.

Governor's Summer Reading Challenge
Sign up to take part in the contest, sponsored by the Connecticut State Library.

Tuesdays at Two Programs
Join us Tuesdays at 2:00 for exciting performances as part of our summer reading program!

Tuesday Night Movies

Science Series for Preschoolers
Wednesdays at 10:30 the library will be hosting Pre-K programs presented by the Children’s Museum of SECT from July 8th to July 29th.  Explore a different subject each week.  Sign-up is required.

Thursday Science Program
Join us Thursdays at 2:00 from July 9th to July 30th for our various science programs featuring a new subject each week.

Preschool Drop-in Storytimes
Running from July 2nd to August 6th the Library will be continuing its Drop-In Storytimes. Each Thursday at 10:30 join us for a preschool storytime with a new theme each week.

Lego® Fun Friday
Children are invited to join in the fun at Lego Club Fridays, starting July 3rd from 10:30 to 12:00 and with a different theme each week.

Children's Movie Matinees
Come to the library every Friday afternoon at 3:00 from June 26th to August 14th for our Movie Matinees in the Ames Meeting Room. Bring your favorite snacks!

Chess Club
Chess club will be running all summer: come to the library and play a pick-up game every Saturday at 10:00.

Unmask!
Teens, be sure to pick up your Unmask! bingo reading card and take part in our Summer Reading Program. In addition to our usual program teens may also record their progress online as part of the Governor's Summer Reading Challenge!

Volunteer Opportunities
The library is looking for volunteers to help the children play our summer reading program game! If you have completed grade six or higher by the end of this school year and would like to volunteer please sign up in the Children's Room. An orientation meeting will be held Friday, June 19th at 3:00pm.

Tuesday Movie Matinee
Join us on Tuesday nights at 6:30pm from June 30th to July 21st for some of your favorite movies.

Afternoon Art Lab
The library will be continuing its afternoon teen art labs every Monday at 2:00pm starting June 29th.

Ready_Set_Code
A series of workshops starting July 6th introducing 10-14-year olds to the basics of coding in a fun and accessible environment.

Ready_Set_Code

Every Monday at 7pm the library will be hosting a workshop introducing 10 to 14-year-olds to the basics of coding in a fun and accessible environment.

Using software like Alice, Scratch, code.org, and bootstrap teens can learn to code and create. Workshops will run July 6th through August 3rd; registration is required. Laptops are not required, but helpful.

Read to Me Program

Take part in our Read to Me program designed for children entering kindergarten and younger!
Sign up and receive a Every Hero! Reading Record. Take your Reading Record home and be sure to record all of the books that you and your child read together throughout the course of the Summer Reading Program.
For every eleven  books (or group of eleven books) you and your child read together, bring the Reading Record to the Library, choose a sticker for the Reading Record, select a small prize, put a special sticker next to your name on our Read to Me sheet, and select a free book (once per visit).
Our program runs from June 22nd to August 1st, 2015. Join us each week for special programs!

Every Hero has a Story!

Take part in our Every Hero has a Story! program designed for children entering 1st grade and up!
Sign up and receive a Every Hero! Reading Record. Take your Reading Record home and be sure to record all of the books that you or your child read together throughout the course of the Summer Reading Program.
Bring the Reading Record back to the Library and for every 30 Minutes you read choose a card for the Reading Record, collect tickets, select a prize, and select a free book (one book per visit).

Spring Reading Contest

March 30th - May 2nd

Join the paper chain and win prize baskets!

Sign up and grab your reading log at the library beginning the last week in March for our Spring Reading Contest. Record the number of minutes you read (or are read to) each day and let us know how much you are reading by coming in and adding a link to our paper chain for each hour you read.

Turn in your reading log on May 3rd to be considered for prize baskets given to the top readers in each category; Read-to-Me, Early Readers, and Independent Readers. Be sure you record and total all of your minutes, identify the category reader you are, and complete the paper chain!

CThumanities presents Book Voyagers

Come sign up for our Book Voyagers family reading program! Author, illustrator and teacher Jason Deeble will share books, activities, and new ways to bring literature to life.

Jason has been a middle school math and science teacher at the Integrated Day Charter School in Norwich for over a decade, but when he isn’t teaching his restless creativity drives him toward a multitude of artistic endeavors.

The Book Voyagers will be meeting at the library each Monday starting at 6:00p.m., from March 9th to March 30th. For grades 1st through 3rd plus parent/guardian, the program is free and open to the public; registration is required. Tell your friends and encourage family reading at home!

Makerspace Workshop

Take Your Child to the Library Day 2015

Saturday, February 7th, 2015  10am - 5pm

The Mystic & Noank Library Children’s Room joins hundreds of libraries across the country to celebrate the third annual Take Your Child to the Library Day.  On Saturday, February 7th, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Library will feature games, crafts and films that encourage children to enjoy the Library, sign up for a library card, and join others for a day of fun.

This grass-roots effort was started in 2012 by Waterford, Connecticut Children’s Librarian, Nadine Lipman, and Stratford, Connecticut’s librarian, Caitlin Augusta. After three years, over 400 libraries in 38 states (to date) are participating.

The Mystic & Noank Library will feature children’s Valentines crafts, Chess and board games, a reptile presentation by the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center at 11 a.m., and a double feature movie in the Ames Room starting at 1:00 p.m.  All events are free and open to the public.
